Obama Aide Barred from White House for Threatening to Shoot Lover

WASHINGTON – An aide to President Barack Obama has been suspended without pay and barred from the White House after she was charged with assault and reckless endangerment for having fired a gun during an argument with her boyfriend, U.S. media reported Tuesday.

Barvetta Singletary, 37, a special assistant to the president and House legislative affairs liaison, was arrested last Friday following the incident at her home in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

According to court documents in the case, Singletary and her boyfriend, a Capitol Hill police officer, had a fight when she accused him of being unfaithful.

In the course of their argument, Singletary allegedly grabbed her lover’s service weapon, threatened him and fired a round at the floor in his direction.

The cop called 911, Singletary was arrested without incident and remained in jail until Monday when she was released after posting a $75,000 bond.

“We are aware of the matter and have temporarily placed the employee in question on unpaid leave and revoked her access to the complex until we have more information,” a White House spokesperson said Monday.

“We will take additional actions as needed,” the spokesman said.

According to official White House documents, Singletary’s salary last year was $126,250.

Before working in the White House as a special adviser to Obama, Singletary was deputy chief of staff to Congressman James Clyburn of South Carolina, the third highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives
